March 20 - 26, 2006

12 students (Kostas included) in the district were the winners in the MLK essay contest back in January and their prize was to see the "Children of Uganda" in Ann Arbor's Power Center. Coach ride and food/refreshments were provided by Pfizer. They had a great time!

Saturday was a very busy day...It started with Kostas doing Taekwondo, then racing over to Kumon class (while mom took Sophia to ballet class) and then we made it in time for Kosta's fifth basketball game of the season. Another heartbreaking loss, these kids just can not catch a break or bounce all season long! The team was down 10-2 at halftime when coach put his foot down and simply tell them to start playing harder...

and play hard they did! We started making shots and the other team kept missing.

So, it was 10-4, 10-6, 10-8 and with one minute left, our best player Deshawn gets fouled and very calmly makes both free throws to tie the game!

We all thought that was it but, unfortunately, the other team scores with 25 seconds left to go up 12-10...and not much time on the clock....Record is now 0-5, with only one game left (rescheduled) on April 8. Maybe that will be the charm!

After the BB game, we raced over to the Greek church for dance practice for Sunday's Greek Independence celebration, which took place on Sunday.

Teacher Ioanna, the priest and the kids getting ready:

The 2nd graders (only three present, the others had other commitments) recite their poem...Yes, those are traditional Greek costumes worn in 1821 at the Independence Wars against Turkey.

Kostas is still not too excited to wear skirt and tights but he is over it now.

Dad got the tickets/hotel/car for Orlando for his annual fun trip with Kostas, we will visit Disney's Blizzard Beach water park and another amusement park down there, not sure which one yet. We are going May 9-11.

We signed up Kostas for one week at the EMU soccer camp and we will again do EMU basketball camp for another week. We will likely send him back to the Washtenaw Recreation Center summer camp again. We are going to look to visit brother in law Hee in New Jersey at his new house in the first week of August.
