Malaysia & Singapore trip Part II
We spent one night at Hee Hong and Yvonne's house. We ate at this huge open market with many hawker stalls food shops...This was the first time Dad finally saw some white people ever since landing in Malaysia:-)
We then decided to cash in some HiltonHonor points to stay at the Kuala Lumpur Hilton. The amazing thing about this hotel is that each night is only 10,000 points when the Athens Hilton is 25,000 points! Again the Gold VIP card worked wonders and we all got access to the lounge where the food available makes the Athens Hilton look like a fast food place!
The kids in the rooms:

The view from one of the rooms, we got two rooms:

The lounge on the 33rd floor, our rooms were on the 12th floor:

The room bathroom:

Taking the subway/rail line to the city:

Visiting one of the malls, this one is right under the Petronas Towers buildings:

Some pics with views of downtown KL:

Petronas Towers, oh yeah, they are huge, until recently the tallest buildings in the world! They grant limited access to the top, you have to line up for tickets early in the morning on a first come first serve basis:

At the back is the KL Tower building:

Some more pics in the KL Hilton:

Hee Hang and his family flew out the next morning for New York, we stayed for a second night!
View from our room:

Oh yeah, the swimming pool!

This is the area of the hotel where you can access five restaurants, we did not, who needs overpriced hotel food when you have free acess to the lounge upstairs with so much available?

Yvonne and Jun Joo

View of KL from the swimming pool:

Ahh, isn't that sweet?

The kids used this water slide A LOT!:

Pizza and four fries only $52 ringgit = $14 US dollars...Kids did not want to go the lounge, too much fun sliding in the swimming pool!

Left on Sunday for the airport. This is the view of the Hilton hotel which is right next to the identical LeMeridien:

KL airport:

Hee Hook, Fong and Sophia:

Family pic sending us off:

Inside KL airport:

Another short flight on Malaysia Airlines to Singapore's Changi airport, passport control counters:

We stayed two nights in Singapore at mom's sisters who all live in the same block. Dad took some time to roam around Singapore.
Orchard Street:

One of the many many shopping malls in this very advanced city state:

Boat Quay area:

The next morning Dad took Kostas to the Science Center but we found out it is closed on Mondays, it was a bummer!

Chinatown:

Kostas really wanted to see the Star Wars exhibit at the Science Center, maybe next time...may the force be with you Kosta:-)

So we took some time to visit around the city.
In front of a Hindu Temple in Little India:

An Arab Mosque:

Sim Lim Square, THE mall for all kinds of electronics!

Bugis area...this monk was displaying some tricks with baby turtles who were obeying his voice commands, quite interesting:

Bugis area:

Bugis area inside:

In our last night the husband of sister #1 took us to a newer building where they hold art performances and concerts...we saw this amazing percussion band!

Singapore Skyline at night:

Our flight to Narita was at 6 am so we woke up around 3 am!
Again very smooth flight with one of the Singapore based Flight Attendants having lots of fun with Sophia...we slept a lot naturally:

Not much time to visit the Narita lounges, we headed straight to the gate and boarded the plane to Detroit. Nice flight until about an hour away from Detroit when we were all awakened by the alarm and saw the oxygen masks come down and flight attendants going around ordering everyone to put on their masks and opening up the boxes with the masks that did not open up...This was a first for all of us and it was quite something. Finally after some intense minutes the Pilot announced that it was a false alarm and that there is nothing to worry about. Lee thought we were all going to meet our maker...Dad was kind of numb about the whole thing, it just felt like something out of a movie! We proceeded to land safely with all the masks still hanging!

Dad demonstrating oxygen mask use:

Home sweet home

Northwest Airlines responded to Dad's complaint letter regarding the mess at Narita that caused Mom and Sophia to depart 29 hours later! NW gave them 25,000 Worlperks miles each and they got credited with miles from the Narita to Singapore flight (mom and the kids' tickets were free award tickets!). Lee also managed to grab some amenity coupons containing more Worlperks miles and discounts on plane tickets. We will also attempt to credit mom's and Sophia's United frequent flier accounts with the mileage for the partner Singapore Airline's flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur (this was due to the missed Malaysia Airlines flight because of the long delay in Narita). After all is said and done we would almost recoup two thirds of the 180,000 Northwest miles we spent for the three free tickets! Not bad!
